An abstract painting based on a dataset of 40,000 Chicago city blocks from 1700-2016 stacked on top of one another. Each row is a block, each column a year. The first color change from left to right reflects when the block became part of Chicago. Every subsequent change reflects when the block changed wards. The six bars represent six groups of similar blocks generated by a clustering algorithm.
