This painting visualizes the gerrymandering of privileged communities by drawing all boundaries of Chicago’s political wards from 1923 to the present over the Bridgeport neighborhood of Chicago. Gerrymandering has protected this community from its inception. Never dividing it or splitting it across wards. Bridgeport is the historic Irish Catholic community that was home to the Daley family who, for two generations, served as city Mayor. Bridgeport stands in stark contrast to Chicago’s Black and Brown communities that have historically been divided for decades.
